As promised in my previous post, and knowing full well it could make some folks mad, I am pointing out all the inconsistencies in Harry Potter, as a whole. Of course, it shall all be behind a cut, so as not to ruin the plot for those who've not not read the entire series. If, reader of this entry, you have a plausible reason for the lapse to be overlooked, then I welcome it, always, and it's just done because I have too much time on my hands, and have really read the books carefully. All page numbers are from the hardcover editions, save for Goblet of Fire, which is paperback, and it should be noted ahead of time.. that I do not do this to profit, or to disparage the series in any way. Quite the opposite, because I like the books. That all aside.. Starting with book 5, Order of the Phoenix, the very first inconsistency I noted is as follows, “Don' worr, it won' hurt yeh,” said Hagrid patiently. “Righ', now, who can tell me why some o' you can see them an' some can't?”
Hermione raised her hand.
“Go on tuhen,” said Hagrid, beaming at her.
“The only people who can see thestrals,” she said, “are people who have seen death.”
which can be found on page 446, in the chapter The Eye of the Snake

Now, here's the fun part, and skipping over the back and forth between Lily and Voldemort, the essential part is.. The green light flashed around the room and she dropped like her husband. The child had not cried all this time: He could stand, clutching the bars of his crib, and he looked up into the intruder's face with a kind of bright interest, perhaps thinking that it was his father who hid beneath the cloak, making more pretty lights, and his mother would pop up any moment, laughing –

Which of course means that he was standing really close to Lily, and had seen her dying, yet somehow.. he was unable to see thestrals until his fifth year, once Cedric had been murdered in the graveyard, and yes the argument he might not have been old enough to remember can be bought up, but in the first book, he recalls flying on a motorcycle, and in the third book, recalled the conversation that took place just before his parents died. That of course, reader, was on pages 344 and 345 of Deathly Hallows, in the chapter Bathilda's Secret.

Next, there is the matter of this, from Goblet of Fire and is found on page 660 of the paperback version, in Priori Incantatem
“Very good,” said Voldemort softly, and as he raised his wand, the pressure bearing down upon Harry lifted also. “And now you face me, like a man... straight-backed and proud, the way your father died...”
but oho, in Deathly Hallows, James dying went a bit more like this..
He was over the threshold as James came sprinting into the hall. It was easy, too easy, he had not even picked up his wand...
“Lily, take Harry and go! It's him! Run! I'll hold him off!”
Hold him off, without a wand in his hand!... He laughed before casting the curse...
“Avada Kedavra!”
The green light filled the cramped hallway, it lit the pram pushed against the wall, it made the banister glare like lightning rods, and James Potter fell like a marionette whose strings were cut...

Now I'm all for defending your family, but what was said in book four is that James fought Voldemort in an effort to protect his family, but in seven, he was unarmed, and hadn't even had a chance to begin defending himself, before he was murdered, and that was on pages 343 and 344 of the hardcover

Additionally, there is one thing more, about book seven that's questionable, and it's this.

“Bathilda must've been dead a while. The snake was... was inside her. You-Know-Who put it there in Godric's Hollow, to wait. You were right. He knew I'd go back.”
“The snake was inside her?”
He opened his eyes again: Hermione looked revolted, nauseated.
“Lupin said there would be magic we'd never imagind,” Harry said. “She didn't want to talk in front of you, because it was Parseltongue, all Parseltongue, and I didn't realize, but of course I could understand her. Once we were up in the room, the snake sent a message to You-Know-Who, I heard it happen inside my head, I felt him get excited, he said to keep me there... and then...”
Nice try, there, but as this evidence from page 336 proves, he's a liar.

“Come!” called Bathilda from the next room.
Hermione jumped and grabbed Harry's arm.
“It's okay,” said Harry reassuringly, and he led the way into the sitting room.

Now, if we're to accept as fact the substitution, and that Nagini could only speak in Parseltongue, then why didn't Hermione, who was close enough to hear as well, realize that it was in that language, especially if Harry could? She surely, even if it was quiet, have heard just hissing, and that there should've been a clue.

Now, the last, and perhaps most obvious thing is simply this.. why was the portkey that was used to transport Harry to the graveyard enchanted so that a roundtrip back to Hogwarts would be possible?
If I were a loyal deatheater, and was delivering the nuisance which had eluded death by my master a number of times before, I would make absolutely sure that once he was delivered to said master, that he couldn't possibly get back.. and books five and seven imply that it's very possible to make portkeys which are one way only.

Right, so there you are, and whether you agree or disagree, that's your right. I merely felt that it was necessary to point out the flaws, and if any are found by you, reader, comment as you see fit.

Yes, I am aware that it's been near six months, but I'm still alive, regardless of whether it was believed otherwise. Add to that, another entry is coming soon, and it's going to be focused on the Harry Potter series. Ahead of time, I wish to state that I adore the series, as a whole, and particularly enjoy the last four books in it. I would say definitely trying to be completely professional, but I don't mean giving into the temptation of harassing prisoners. What I refer to is keeping watch over them, and guarding them, while reporting any incidents of impropriety, committed by other guards. That to me would be the most difficult, because it would result in being ostrized, or targeted, by other guards. It's really a double edged sword, as they say. Either do your job properly and get bothered by those who give in to their hostilities, or do the same and be made a martyr.

To me, yes. Being a zombie would be, based on all I've seen, little more than slavery. In that case, it would be slavery to an instinct to continually search out food, never stopping, never tiring, even while your body decayed. That alone seems like suffering to me.

Wars are like elections. They're a waste of money, are waged for selfish reasons, hinder more than they help and ultimately serve to prevent people from truly being united, whether it be just a grouping of states, or a larger scale.

I don't like when you make it always feel like a chore.

I don't like when you harp on me because they don't act the way you feel they should, or possess some strength

I hate how you get mad because i've spent two years dueling and working on one characters's strength, and then you throw a fit because he can fight nearly on par with yours.

I hate how all your characters seem to be godlike in ability, and again, how you get mad because someone else can provide some challenge to them.

Lastly I hate how you get upset when people behave in a semi-realistic manner, and don't hero worship you, or try to do things which would make sense, such as wanting to get the details on a crime which had been committed, at the expense of possible in game friendship.

There's more, but eh, I don't feel like saying them. Love me or hate me, I don't care for they are my feelings and I won't apologize for them, nor will I go behind your back and badmouth you to others

Since I haven't posted in a while, i've got to rectify that now, and since it's near the end of the year, i've decided to post all the things that annoy me.

First, and while this is sure to get people mad at me.. religion. Now, i'm going to clarify on this, since the answer is vague to be sure, and with that in mind.. I hate the fact, yes the fact, that religion is absurdly powerful and has such an influence on people's every single action. As an example, I cite the reactions to books and movies that offer alternative views and possibilities toward religion, and of course the demand that Catholicism and Christianity be left alone, while members of those two groups frequently slander other religions such as Buddism, Hinduism, Judism, and even Islam. I know that's been a long rant, but I really don't like that it's considered wrong to not have faith in this day, and that anyone who believes something, or doesn't at all, is deemed heretical or blasphemous. *coughs and waits for response on that one, good or bad*

Second, people who practice exclusivity, in terms of rp, and such things like that, not relationships because I know the term applies to each. If you don't know what i'm speaking of, then this doesn't apply to you. I merely dislike that certain people only ever rp with themselves, and only a couple others, never allowing for the vast majority to be involved, which hinders interaction obviously, but also possible friendships icly or oocly. Even if the character in question is a rude, self-centered person, icly, then grin smugly to others, and say 'Earn my friendship' or something to that effect.

Third, people who, on aim, msn, and other chat messengers, frequently use internet shorthand in chat. For examples, I list the following u - You y - Why, and so on. It irritates me so, because you wouldn't write that way while in school, and to slack off even when you're not there is pitiful, and I just want to shake the people who do it.

Anyway, I can't think of anything else, right now anyway.. if I think of any more, i'll make another entry, and the same goes for the things I like.

In response to my last post, and the comments which were added for it, I was just feeling like I annoyed people by always sending messages to them on aim, yahoo and the like, which is a habitual thing.. since I do that sometimes.. Anyway, I don't think i'll vanish, at least not yet, but I will share a conversation I had with someone on Karchan, between one of my characters and someone else who I believe i've never spoken to oocly before.

Hurrah, it's valentines day. *note the sarcasm* No, I don't loathe the holiday because i'm single. I really don't mind that at all, and actually prefer it that way. What I dislike so much about this absurd and idiotic holiday is that it's 100% not necessary, and if anyone were to stop and think about it, would likely realize that it's a marketing gimmick, created by jewelry, chocolate and card companies. The entire point of caring about someone is showing that affection at random times, not when someone tells you that it's expected. That takes away from the spontaneity and and surprise of doing something to show how you feel. I'm sure there are of course those who believe otherwise, and that's fine, for it is their opinion much like this is mine. My stance however is that the 'holiday' is nothing more than a way to sell things, and only helps to further brainwash the masses into believing they have to buy things on this specific day, all because society says if you do otherwise, then you don't love the person you're with, which is a thinly disguised scare tactic. Anyway, i've said my peace, and encourage anyone who agrees or disagrees with my opinion to say as much.

I reckoned it was time for another update, so here goes. Not a whole lot has been going on as of late, aside from my usual adminning duties in Elinon. *ponders* I did manage to get downtown and visit Jackie for a while the week before last, which was a fun afternoon. We got to walk around the harbor and the local stores, including the Barnes and Noble and Bestbuy which are located around there. Aside from that, not a whole lot's happened, aside from reading The DaVinci Code finally. Having finished it, I can honestly say that all the religious groups making a fuss about it just need to quit and realize taking religion so seriously is a mistake. The most amusing thing about how they act toward groups which don't fit their ideals is that tolerance and acceptance of others is supposed to be the most important thing religions teach. Of course, that is ignored time and again when it comes to things that a bunch of people centuries ago said was immoral. *rant ended* Anyway, I got my mom a card while down there, as Mothers Day was coming up, and purchased a couple more volumes of Fruits Basket. Overall, things have been well. *bounces*
